Along with the bridal shower cake for one young bride, I also recently did some cupcakes for a fun-loving young couple’s engagement party. Their wedding will be casual and fun and held on a farm with many of the guests camping out for the weekend. With that theme in mind, what better fit than to create a herd of cow head cupcakes! The groom loves carrot cake and the bride loves chocolate and sprinkles so there were two dozen carrot cake cows and two dozen chocolate with sprinkles cupcakes.
Using a simple round cutter strategically placed to make the patches most effective, made cutting the base disks quite easy.
Tip: When working with thinly rolled fondant such as the black patches, you need to work quickly because they dry out very fast when they are so thin. Keeping them covered with plastic wrap helped buy me some time while working with them.
The snout was pale pink fondant easily shaped and flattened slightly with a couple of pokes for the nose and the bottom edge of a piping tip to create the smiling mouth. A couple of candy eyes and some black fondant shaped for the horns and the cows are done.
There were quite a few chuckles at the cow cupcakes but not a crumb left of either type of cupcake so it seems they were a hit!
